The Story of Hair
The Story of Hair is a claymation about the history of hair from Africa to today. The artwork was created by young people from Kids on the Hill, narration performed by artist Joyce J. Scott and music by James Collins from Fertile Ground. The story shows how hair has been a symbol of pride and identity and also a tool used to oppress Africans, American slaves and African Americans today. Young people in Kids on the Hills program sometimes tease each other about their hair. This story shows the roots of that teasing.
The 12 minute DVD can be purchased at Kids on The Hill.
